I've been reading your replies guys and even the guy that has sold me the system via Amazon who I have had to get in touch with via telephone has recommended that we should use CAT5. The system came with a 30M RG59 or "Shotgun" cable as it's referred to as per camera, I intend to install it with this and if I have any issues I'll go CAT5 at a later date using the existing cable runs.

Back to the DVR for now though, I spec'd mine to deliberately come without a Hard Drive as I wanted to spec my own. I'd been reading online that Western Digital make purpose built Surveillance Hard Drives for DVR's A bit more research lead and some number crunching lead me to buy a 2TB Western Digital Purple 3.5" HDD which apparently when being developed was tuned to work seamlessly with the Hikvision chipset

Recording 24/7 at 8MP 1080p 4K I will be able to store 14 days worth of footage
