their only problem is, they go out when the side lights come on, rather than dim.
I got this control box, which pulse modulates the lights to dim them, plus has the other functions I mentioned.

The DTRL's that I fitted to my BMW go out once dip beam or main is selected, the power runs from the ignition circuit with a cheap e-bay relay to the lamps with the one wire to the dip circuit to put them out. As these units are not overly bright anyway I have lived with them as they are.
My second aftermarket DTLR fitting was on our Jeep, it took three different sets of DTRL's before I found some reliable ones luckily for me I got refunds on my first two sets. All looked very similar in design but the last set seem to be okay and have been working for about 9 months without the dreaded flicker disease!
The ones I fitted on my Jeep dim rather than go out when sidelights or head lamp dip/main is selected. My first e-bay relay that was voltage actuated burnt out as the wattage was close to the relay limit. I fitted a higher load relay when the first one failed with an extra relay to handle the lamp feed. A bit over designed but it works.
