Talking 'lo

Hi all,
I'm currently saving for a used Terrano van to use as a tow vehicle for my other car, as a daily hack & for a little green lane fun from time to time. So while I'm saving I though I'd take the opportunity to do a little more research on the car such as it's weak points, how many miles the diesel engines are good for etc.
I'm a little confused why I can't read the post threads in the technical section but I'm sure I'll figure it out.
I look forward to getting to know everyone & I'll try not to ask too many stupid questions!

Cheers,

Loz.

very good strong problem free engines

no cam belts or chains as they are gear driven. same engine as the London taxi so good for hundreds of thousands of miles.

rust not a big issue either apart from rear seat belt mounts

oh and a fantastic owners club for all the little niggles you might get. but generally just niggles with these trucks

Thanks , I never knew the London Taxis shared the same engine, see it was worth joining already! Thankfully the seat belt mounts shouldn't be a problem either as I want the commercial version.

Work out what engine you want as well. The earlier TD has no intercooler and about 100bhp, the TDi has an intercooler (and bonnet air intake, thats the easiest way to tell without lifting bonnet!) and about 125bhp. Both are 2.7; there is also a 3.0 that was used in the Patrol, previously a bit troublesome I believe but sorted by the time the Terrano used it....it has about 158bhp.

The 2.7 averages 25 mpg in mixed use, while the 3.0 does 30-32mpg.
