Gearbox woes

Hi Guys,
Problem, managed to let box run out of oil,
Squealing in 3rd gear
Hard to get into second on way down
Jumps out of gear on over run

I had a look underneath, looks like the box will come out leaving the bell housing behind, hopefully I am right.

I have done gearbox/bell housing out only on cars

If so does anyone have a gearbox to fit mine, details in sig

How much to SS0 9

What is the best way, engine out or from underneath?
Either way looks past me, only done cars laying on my back under, I would probably get squashed if I tried that with Mav

I will carry on until it expires

I never handled a terrano gearbox but all I’ve heard is how heavy they are and I should imagine engine will be heavy too. Rick recommends the engine out to replace clutch so that maybe because it’s easier than gearbox out which suggests something. Suppose theres the cross member and the torsion bars to remove too. If box is coming out probably a good time to check and replace the clutch too.
Expensive job but I reckon if rest of the truck is solid it has to be worth it too you rather than looking at it from a vehicle value perspective.

No point in removing the engine to replace a box, it is a very heavy unwieldy beast, but can be done in two stages and in your case would make sense, that is to remove the transfer box first, you will probably need to do that anyway unless you manage to get a complete unit, but you need a support device of some kind, Rick

Hi Rick, thanks for the offer, I may well take you up on it

Another fault has shown up, total lack of power, limped into a garage got £20 of diesel problem seemed to go away, but soon came back

I changed the fuel filter Tuesday, engine started but ran rough, white smoke but may have been condensation

I am going to clean the mini filter today

I suspect the tank vent, I have not tested that yet but remember some years ago someone had power shortage, I remembered my early motorbike days and suggested running the engine with the fuel cap off [I plan to do that later today] as I recall this solved the problem.

If it does turn out to be the vent how do I clear it?

The manual I have may show a vent pipe, if the engine runs well without the cap I will blow down it gently with my air line, I think I have sent a clip from the manual, I guess the right hand pipe will be the vent

Cant recall the members name [oldtimers] Starts with a 'B' I think [got it BANSHEE]

I have found a copy of the manual on one of my old hard drives The front page says NISSAN TERRANO Model R20 series it mentions the intercooler so may not be correct for me.
Would it help the club if I sent it in

highly recomend going to rick but his time is much harder to pin down,i went and he sorted out my transfer box and a lot of other things as well at a very low cost to me.

Engine problem was mini filter

Loads of black soft stuff on it, on the outside this time, I thought it usually clogged up inside, anyway pulls well now 4K in second no problem

I will take Rick up on his offer, next year sometime

I don't use it much so no panic.

Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.
