LOKKA auto/manual hubs

Scrolling on the web for some detail about fitting front Lokkas, I came across a Trol forum. they speak of the following issue.

will this effect the later Terranos?

"something that I should mention is that you may need to convert your auto hubs to manual ones otherwise you’ll have problems with them unlocking"

I would imagine the kit Lokka are making caters for this?

perhaps a question to Lokka themselves.

No why would you assume they cater for this? Just buy manual hubs if thats the case.

I read a post on Pistonheads somewhere that the autos do have a habit of self destructing on corners when they haven't disengaged, hence why I went AVM manuals

Remember Banshee mate fixed hubs are just like us with our manuals when switched to lock. As long as there's no drive to the front diff ie. you're in 2wd, the lokka will just ratchet like it's meant to.

The problem is with auto hubs they won't unlock as easily (or at all) as the lokka will keep the driveshafts moving which could cause the autos to go bang. By fitting manuals you know they will be unlocked when you want them to be

Alex you do not have Auto hubs they are fixed so not a problem at all, they will just ratchet on corners, Rick

I have fixed hubs and wanna go manual hubs as do all of road work and dont like the idea the front diff etc are always turning

As long as you make sure auto hubs are disengaged properly (reversing back a few feet after disengaging 4wd) then don't see how a lokka would give you any problems on auto hubs.
I've looked and pondered the idea of fitting a lokka but not needed one on all the lanes I've driven over the years.
If you lose traction on the front a bit of left foot braking can put the drive back to the rears and give you your traction back.
Each to their own though.

Time and time again I cannot get my head around the three different types of hubs, but you are saying I need not worry? as the cv joints turn all the time I worried this would cause issue when returning to 2wd

Having driven around with my LOKKA fitted and had the fixed hubs on, it's terrifying!!!

The noise of it ratcheting on corners is awful and even people on the pavement have commented

It's not just the noise either, you could feel it clunking through the steering wheel, my partner uses my truck and I let her drive it without telling her that it would do it and she was pulling into a tight car park and she got that scared she slammed the brakes on because she said "she thought the wheel was going to fall off"

By fitting the manuals you can set them to free and nothing up front will be spinning thus prolonging the life of Prop UJ's and also saving me fuel

More importantly, it stops the horrible ratcheting and vibrations through the wheel.

Alex, I'd seriously recommend a set of Manual Hubs

I battered mine matey so I binned them, they were looking rather worse for ware beforehand anyway

Sounds to me like your Lokka has not been set up correctly, my off roader when I drive it about the yard can hardly hear the diff, but then I shaved the washers to get the correct clearance, Rick
