Default Wanted - SWB 2.7TDi Terrano Sport

Looking on behalf of my Grandad who has realised after years of me telling him how rubbish his 97' 528i is has finally decided he wants to get rid of it
It's cosmetically fantastic but mechanically dying a death, it has electrical gremlins which without fail empty the battery flat every night unless the battery is disconnected, ABS lights all over the shop and the brakes are awful too, Engine and Oil light on, creamy gunk all over th oil cap and in the oil, Radio comes on full blast randomly when going over bumps and you can't do anything because the screen and all controls are broken, the list goes on.............

To make it worse, being a BMW when we did have the bad snow a few years back he had a dangerous incident in it as he lives up a very steep street thats almost 800ft above sea level and being RWD he managed to slide all the way back down across a busy main road narrowly avoiding traffic and mercyfully stopping under its own steam before hitting anything So 4WD is a bonus

He has given me a budget of 3k but I told him I'd proably do better than that so that's why I've sepcified the Sport.

He's an old man at 78 and does a 9 - 5 manual labour job putting furniture up for the displays at Ikea Wednesbury (J9 M6). His main criteria was that it had semi/full leathers and that the Air Con worked, he would also like a dark colour, Grey, Green, Black, Silver

Keep your ears and eyes open boys

If he's used to a 5 series, why not LWB?

Good point, it will be more stable in slippery conditions too

Since he's had the car he's carried 4 passengers once and he's had it for 4-5 years, he said a SWB would be better and he's not the best at parking so probably not a good idea.

Plus he said the LWB are ugly

If he's not very good at parking you might want to set aside some money for rear parking sensors, or a camera

Well, that makes a lot of sense, as a BMW owner it's fair to say that having "no taste" is a prerequisite, which explains the "ugly" comment.

I'd have thought that LWB would be better for parking issues as you have more to "shove" with.

Thinking about it, is he going to be able to cope with a Terrano at all? I mean you're going to have basically teach him to drive all over again.

1. He won't be able to overtake on blind corners.
2. He won't be able to overtake at all.
3. He'll have to learn that someone coming the other way flashing their lights is letting him through, rather than calling him a t**t.
4. He'll have to learn that someone coming the other way flashing their lights is letting him know that there's a speed trap ahead, rather than calling him a t**t.
5. He'll have to learn that someone coming the other way flashing their lights is saying hello, rather than calling him a t**t.
6. Indicators! It's going to take forever to teach him what indicators are and how to use them.

Why not get him a R**** R***r and then he doesn't need to relearn anything.

Just trying to help.

#close the gap, search for BMW school on youtube and you'll get that reference

Banshee, he needs a subaru legacy mate, or at least the impreza estate, jag do a 4x4 estate too and I think volvo do as well. Save the Terranos, he'll only go bashing into posts and attacking polish lorry grilles with it

Hello,

This 2001 reg is on Preloved, far from a minter but maybe better than others as MOT history could be worse. Depends how much time and effort you can put into it to keep it maintained or does he always use garages.

Good spot but look at the arches starting to bubble and the rear wheel arches are looking a bit orange too, bloody close though I'm only 15 mins away at Work, may be worth a look
