Used to be into it as a kid, still got some gear and have a dip in the local canals every now and again but be lucky if I pulled a few roach out these days.

I fished at School then pretty much gave it up until I retired the first time in 2003 when a much younger mate (Adrian) taught me some new ways.

I have stuck with a Rod & Reel - Pole Fishing is not for me. Learnt about Feeder Rod Fishing, Bite Alarms, Boilies & Pop Ups etc. Then of course with Commercial Fisheries the catch rate & weight has increased no end.

As a kid my biggest ever freshwater fish was around 7 oz. My personal best is now just over 20 lbs for a Mirror Carp & around 23-24 lbs for a Pike when I fished Pode Hole Land Drain down South on New Years Day in 2004/5.

I do find it very relaxing so no fishing competitions for me - its all about scenery nature & Human v Fish its all a bit in the primeval part of my brain! The Missus thinks I'm a bit touched in the head.

My misses actually quite likes it as she can sun herself on the bank and then gets ever so excited when the float goes under and there's a little fish on the end. She thinks it's hilarious

I missed that, got side tracked by the paint drying
I sat and watched this guy fishing for four hours once.
Eventually he said to me, "Why don't you give it a go?"
I said, "No thanks. I don't have the patience."

Had lunch at a local fishery "Woodhouse" at Alkmanton. Whilst tucking into my Cheese Omelet the bloke near us caught 4 Carp all were in the 3-10 lb region he was using Dog Biscuit on a Hair Rig with a Fox Bubble Float - even the Missus thought he was doing well.

Meanwhile two pegs up an old fella with a split cane rod - even his landing net had a Bamboo handle caught a huge Mirror Carp certainly a doubler.

One thing i did enjoy was lure fishing for trout in loch Carra in county Mayo over in Eire.
I have a lot of family out that way so me and my uncle took his boat out for a day
