Right then you guys after asking the question about fitting roof rails and roof bars to my Mav I decided to take Fez_UK and makeitfit's advice and I managed to source some LWB roof rails from a scrap yard in Smethwick which I picked up earlier this afternoon , I also fetched a set of Original Ford roof bars from Coventry last night and met the Richtheracer and his wife, we had a great natter exchanged ideas and he even taught me a few things and so did his wife (nothing rude intended there guys!!! Gutterminds)
I'm quite excited to get them on the roof and couldn't wait to see what they looked like so I just placed them on the roof when I got home to see if I liked the look of it and here was the results, I only put the front roof bar on btw the other one was still in the car I was really pleased with how they look and can't wait to get them attached to the roof properly , but this is where I need some advice, I've already taken the advice I was given and switched the legs round so the curved one was at the front so I could mount the bar as far forward as I can so I light up more of whats in front rather than the roof. From searching the forum I've found the optimum position for them and already marked it up. From what I have been reading, Rivnuts??? don't seem to be the best way of attaching them so I think I'm going to go for the nut and bolt option, so which ones do I need? Will I need to remove the headlining to re-attach them as when I fetched them they were already off the car? And what size do the holes in the roof need to be and how can I ensure I don't get any leaks? What should I use to seal round the holes and where abouts is it best to seal? Sorry for the barrage of questions but drilling into my roof is a big deal to me lmao so I want to get it right first time any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated Also another thing that was confusing me was the fact that when I was attaching the brackets to the roof rails for the bars, the bars all seemed to slide in from the right of the bracket if you know what I mean, this means that the bracket on the left hand side of the car would be backwards and the Ford sign would be facing the rear of the car, is this right or am I doing something completely and utterly stupid?? Here's some pics to show what I mean The right hand side bracket (notice Ford badge at front) The left hand side bracket (notice no Ford badge as the bracket is backwards :S) I'm not sure but i think Richtheracer has sold me 4 right hand side brackets :P, unless everyone else's are like that too ?? Thanks in advance guys and again sorry for the barrage of questions Last edited by Banshee; 24-07-2017 at 08:55. |

I bolted mine through the roof and used plenty of tigerseal to stop leaks.

Ford badge does point the wrong way, but only 50% of the time
There's not a lot of room up front with a sunroof fitted , so I'd be inclined to drop the head lining to be safe. That way you can fix the feet in the strongest part of the roof while missing all the internal strengthners round the screen etc. I can't remember what size bolts I used but M6 should do it |

I have never seen any of these original bars, but I would imagine the brackets are all the same and yes two will face the opposite way. As long as they all clamp the bars I can't see this being a problem

And is there any way that we could get this moved into Technical>Maverick/Terrano>Bodywork&Chassis, as I intend to use this thread to document as a walkthrough how I attach the rails and bars and spots etc |

Banshee them brackets are the original ones from my short wheel mav, so must be right the way one faces forward and other to rear!! Didnt know thats how they fit as never fitted them but must be right as came with motor when I bought it!! Looks good though I must admit I wouldnt fancy drilling my roof, I'm s**t at stuff like that but looking forward to seeing it finished!
