As said I have about a Kg of Mercury that I no longer need, if anyone on here has a need then PM me, it currently goes for around £30 per 100g but I am not looking for top price, just want to see it being used by someone, Rick

I have never used it myself, just recovered it from old switch-gear etc, but it can be used to recover gold from printed circuit boards as an example, Rick

Ok , thanks for that.
I did some work for a guy that had a company that specialised in extracting gold from redundant tech and from all sorts of equipment. He was doing ok. |

Mercury Spillages at work.
Mercury talk - that reminded me of when I used to work at Associated Octel at Ellesmere Port where they used to make Tetraethyl Lead for the petrochemical industry.
I worked in the Kastner-Kellner hall where we would get spillages of Mercury from the moving mercury cell beds after maintenance etc. If it was a large spill you could sweep some of it up into a pan but due to toxicity we had to get it all up. We used lumps of cardice - it would freeze the mercury enough to pick it up & sweep it up. Of course back then safety was quite primitive though we did get regular blood checks to check on Mercury absorption etc. The standing story - probably a joke was of a plant operator guy who was stopped by security as he was cycling through the exit. His tyres looked flat so they stopped him for a search - he dropped the bike and ran off. It took 2 blokes to lift the bike off the floor due to the frame being full of mercury. |

I think there are restrictions on air freight with mercury as it eats aluminium!

It used to be a valuable sought after commodity, but now seems you have to pay to have it taken away, Hmf, Rick
