1st Weekend of 2019

Wow the first weekend of 2019, hope everyone has survived the festivities and feeling fine.
I haven’t bothered with resolutions as I always break them or forget them

So I’m going to keep myself busy for obvious reasons.

Just finished my second mug of tea so time to get moving, before my last op I started fitting out our en-suite but didn’t get finished. So today I’m going to get on with it.
First job is move all the crap that has started to build up in the en-suite again. Then I’ve got some plaster board inside a cupboard to all ow access to run a pair of cctv cables, first fix. Then fill voids with insulation and cut some more plaster board and fit in the cupboard and seal the Joints to make it draught proof. I can then get on with the 4inch waste pipes. If I can get that lot done today I’ll be happy. Then make a plan for tomorrow.

Was at work this morning then this afternoon i had a couple of hours on my trailer project.

We were in the enviable position of having a car with a full tank of fuel, that as of Monday will no longer be insured, so we went out for a long drive today...

When ever we go somewhere, and pass Costco, we fill up with fuel, as their Diesel is almost always 5p or 6p cheaper than the cheapest round here. When we went to look at the Jeep, we took my car, so on the way home, we filled up.. We then spent the weekend debating the Pro's and Cons of the Jeep, and the only trip out we took was in Suz's car. Then when we went to pick the Jeep up, as Suz would need to be driving back, she thought it better to drive her car, as that is the one she knows best. This meant my T2 still had a full tank. Obviously, since then, I have been busy "playing" with the Jeep, so my poor T2 has not been out since the 22nd of December.

So today, we loaded her up, and took a scenic tour to Dungeness, stopping to look at the steam train, and taking the 2 kits for a walk... wow, it was cold. We then followed the coast to Dover, heading up to Langden Cliffs, and spent a while watching the ferries loading, unloading, and manoeuvring in the harbour. Then, set off back home via Canterbury, to stop at our favourite Kebab shop, found a place to stop and eat it, and then finally full and relaxed, back home.

Tomorrow will be a busy day, as the new tow bar has arrived, so now it is time to take the spanners to the Jeep. I need to start ASAP as the list is getting longer.

So far:-
Change windscreen washer jets, as one is damaged.
Fit Tow Bar
Rewire towing electrics from 7pin to 13pin Socket
Extra electrical wires front to the rear for the accessories, including new fuse and relay boxes at both ends as well.
Wires up to the roof bar for amber lights.
Find a local(ish) tyre place that will assemble my Tyres, TPM Sensors, and wheels, and actually knows what they are doing... oh, and not KWIK FIT, as despite what they say in their adverts, previous experience has proved to me they do not know what they are doing.. Ever...

I was really annoyed today. Decided that the two wires I needed to thread the span was too long for some garden canes taped together. So nipped to a friends house to borrow his fish fire and stood talking for ages. Got home cut a hole at one end of the void with my hole cutter then startto thread the fish wire but nothing arrived at the other end. Tried pulling it back but soon realised it had snaked it’s self where it shouldn’t and got caught. So my car port ceiling looks like swiss cheese now, the good news is that I retrieved the fish wire. Put the fish wire away and will have another go tomorrow after fixing the ceiling.

So very little progress today.

When the contractors did some remedial work at our house they left a couple of class fibre type rods behind. I used them for threading my CCTV cables through the plastic conduit. They are only about 3 mm in diameter and the sections screw together - a bit lie these below. Don't know how I got t my age without using them before.

Thinking of buying a set for future use there are cheaper kits available than Screwfix.

Yeah I’ve seen those but I’m pretty sure they would of got snarled up too. I’ve still got the disks of plasterboard so some short sections of wood slid in the holes and screwed then the disk pushed into hole and screwed followed by a couple of layers of filler it’ll be forgotten about.

So Sunday morning and work about to commence.

Repair holes
Run two lengths of cable and leave draw string in place for future
Insulate void under eves in the en-suite
Plasterboard up the void to become cupboard.

Not a lot but if I can accomplish these jobs today I will be a happy bunny.

I used to use the curtain wire used for net curtains - its pretty good as well.

Sorted, a length of narrow trunking finished the job off nicely. I’ve even filled the holes in and got my cables through so I’m happy. Just warming up after chatting to the bloke next door before attacking some more work in the en-suite.

I enjoy doing DIY stuff, since the fire there is naff all to do at home as it's all been re-built.

A future project is building an en-suite / bathroom on the ground floor so when we become decrepit and can no longer manage our stairs the front room will be converted back into a downstairs bedroom, it has enough room for a sitting area.

It is a good sized L shaped room as a result of knocking down a wall some years ago that seperated what was the third bedroom (other 2 are upstairs) and our dining room.

There is easy access to water & drain as downstairs W/C is adjacent to the room. Just needs some dry wall partition, doorway, move a radiator, move a ceiling lamp, do away with some 3 pin wall sockets.

Thinking of fitting a double rain shower, bath plus some tiling or wall laminate. Should not be too expensive even if I get it done by a Tradesman.

That sounds like a great project Ted, yes I do love DIY type jobs too. Like a lot of things I find tradesmen don’t seem to do the job just as I’d like it.

Finished for today, tired so I’m hoping I sleep tonight which was one of my aims. Got wires run through to exactly where I want them and also a length of rope to use as a draw string for future cable runs, think I must be OCD doing tricks like that.
Insulated around the void that will beome a cupboard, cut a section of plasterboard but can’t fix it to outside wall because I need to drill through the wall from the outside to poke a cable outside ready for CCTV.

So got a few errands to run tomorrow morning and then in the afternoon I’ll drill the hole with the SDS and then complete the plasterboard. Then I can carry on plumbing the en-suite.

Can you tell that I’m deliberately keeping myself busy?

Hope everyone else’s weekend has been productive or relaxing too.
