Front bulkhead leaks
Hi guys,
The perennial problem of water ingress to drivers side footwell...... I have sealed and taped the sunroof (daft idea cutting a hole in a good bit of steel!!) So it isn't the roof drains...... I have just removed the plastic trim beneath the windscreen, to reveal the metalwork panel. On the passenger side there is is screwed panel covering the wiper linkages.....but not on the drivers side, although there are holes for poly fixings for self tappers etc. Question is.....should there be a panel, if yes...should I cover it, and is it likely to be the source of water coming in..... I'm not going to replace the trim straight away, as I'm having a new windscreen fitted next week as the present one has cracked from a previously treated chip repair...... All thought will be appreciated.... Thank you JohnB |

Yes there should be two access points both covered with a metal plate that needs to be water tight, had load in the past but doubt I have any now, but will look when I have time, Rick

You can keep the water out with a bit of plastic sheet and some gaffer tape, Rick

Thank you all for your thoughts.
I think it so unlikely that such a part will appear, that I've followed Rick's suggestion. I have some spare black corrugated sheet (Correx) and cut a panel to fit, with judicious application of 'Gorilla' tape, it is now fixed. This leaves the 2 square apertures in the centre part, which I assume allow for air intake for the ventilation/heater system? JB |

Just checked my stock and can only find 2 passengers side ones.
I'll can see if I can find a drivers side one if you'd prefer to do the job right?

Just a thought on this.
John5177 has a 3.0l SVE, is that what you other guys are talking about too? I seem to recall no driver side cover on my 3.0l SVE when I had the plastic panel off a year or so ago. |

Will have a look at my 3.0ltr.
I know it's not fitted at the moment but will check if it has the plastic inserts for the screws. |

Thanks for the ongoing debate on this one
.....it just seems odd to have one for passenger side and not drivers side, when the apertures for fixings etc are present..... I've patched it over for the moment, but being a bit OCD like to do things correctly when I can.... |

Well it looks like the drivers side blanking plate is an optional extra.
No sign of one ever being fitted on my 3.0 ltr. 20210228_162112.jpg One there on the passenger side though. |
