Default Attention Rick

Hi Rick, I'm going to go ahead and presume you've changed tyres on split ring wheel before, any advice for me here, the tyre won't go low enough for us to get the rings on, Thanks

I still have some place the special lever for extracting the split ring, anyway yes place the full ring on first then lay the split ring on, you should be able to press one side of the tyre low enough to enter the first bit of the split ring, once that is located, can be tricky, keep your foot on it and follow the rest round with a sledge hammer, please ensure it is all correctly seated prior to inflating, strictly speaking it should be done in a strong cage designed for the purpose, if the ring comes off during inflation it has enormous power, many guys were very seriously injured when those wheels were popular, Rick

aggressive off road tyres on wheels so just swap.
Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.

I have seen a vid on Utube where a guy has wrapped the wheel and tyre in chains, this will not contain tyre split rim and rim in the event of not proper seating of the slit rim, they called these rims "widow makers" with good reason, Rick

Yeh I've heard how dangerous they can be but didn't realise exactly why until reading that!
We will give that a go tomorrow, also going to make a stand/jig to put it on to lift the rim a little off the floor to allow the tyre full travel over the wheel. I'm not 100% convinced that the tyre is correct for the rim, its so tight and there is little to no flex left in the tyre to push it down with the ring.
I'll pist an update tomorrow, also we have an extra long tyre inflator that allows us to hide round the corner while inflating

The tyre is designed to be tight so that it excerpts a good pressure on the rim to keep it locked prior to inflation, yes lifting the wheel will help getting the ring on, good idea to hide round the corner, only put 20 psi in first off and give it a good hammering to make sure it is seated well, Rick
