Default Old Reel To Reel

I have an old Telefunken reel to reel from the very early seventies in need of repair. It still plays, but the sound is very quiet.
Anyone know anyone that knows about that kind of electronics that would have a look at it for me? For a fee of course.
It's my late brother's & my Mum's nearly 80, she would so love to listen to him again.
Or maybe a person with the equipment could transfer the recordings onto cd for me/my mum.

Have you tried cleaning the recording/playback heads ?

I suspect if the tapes are old they are shedding the oxide coating so might be clogged.

It's decades ago but as I recall I used a cotton bud with meths to clean them.

Do you know, I didn't think of that & I used regularly clean cassette players the very same way..... Silly me When you've not done something for so long, you forget.
I'll give it go

Jim.. Thank you, but I don't have the equipment.

Does the player have any way of connecting headphones etc? I know it's going to be an old bit of kit but if you can plug in an output it shouldn't be too hard to convert it to a digital format in either .wav or .mp3 for safer keeping as tape will eventually degrade.

You'll be able to use a PC sound card coupled with a piece of software named Audacity to achieve this should you have the right outputs

I tried cleaning the head & relevant parts, but still the same. I found a company headed letter in the box saying a part is needed from back in 87, but it doesn't say which part.
I've found some companies that transfer audio to other formats, but can't transfer commercial recordings due to copyrights. As songs are mixed with audio, it would a long & expensive process.
Hey ho

When you say two pin sort do you mean Phono? (White and Red)?

If that's the case you're in luck!!! You can use a 3.5mm stereo to phono cable and plug that into the microphone port on a laptop or computer sound card and then capture the audio to a digital format such as WAV or MP3, once you have that there's features in software like Audacity (free) that allow you to adjust sound levels and boost the audio somewhat

as a ex tv/radio field service engineer we where advised NOT to use meths ,as it can leave a residue but instead use isopropyl alcohol , also be very gentle when swabbing the head , don't rub hard
