Does the switch light up from the 12v suppply or is it a neon that lights up from the mains supply?
If it lights up from 12v then it should have a main 12v + feed, this should then feed the fridge mechansism. You must also have to have a negative feed to the bulb, this may be whats missing or broken in some way.
I'm also assuming it's an Electrolux fridge in the caravan, try a google search for a circuit diagram perhaps.

Is your caravan a modern model, if so the fridge only works on 12v when the 12s (grey) plug is connected to the car with the engine running, that's when the light in the switch will come on. It's done this way so that you don't kill your car battery or caravan battery.

Hi Brian, what gadgetsyd said is quite right so it might be worth checking this first. I have to say though, if you are not sure what you are doing you really could end up with major problems. In the long run it may very well be cheaper and easier to go to a caravan repair centre. Better to be safe than sorry. They should be able to tell you if it is simply the bulb that is gone, which may well mean a new switch to get it working.
