well, as its the host file, Vista wont liek you editing it full stop, so make sure UAC is off, and ensure its not set to read only AND not blocked for any reason (says so in the properties where you set the read permissions etc)

any body could also try using different DNS servers, all you do is go into your network card properties, click on Internet Protocol Version 4 and choose Properties. In there, click advanced, then DNS at the top, click ADD, then add the dns servers of your choice, googles are 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

the problem could be that the DNS records for that site are screwed through your providers DNS records, this is why its worth trying different DNS addresses to see if that is the case. accessing yoru network card properties depends on operating system, but generally you go into Control Panel, Network Settings then right click your active LAN or Wireless card and choose properties. if it doesnt work, simply go back in and remove. If it does work, just report it to yoru provider, see if they can fix...

not saying this will work, as I dont actually know whats wrong, its just I work in IT, and this is somethng we would try from a diagnostic point of view....

well i've got on here quite by chance after days of no access at all despite DNS flush etc. Thing is if you can't get on the site you can't find out why you can't, does that make any sense?

I've just talked Plank (Chris) through this one with Vista and he is now working fine.

1) Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories
2) Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator"
3) Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt
4) Click File -> Open
5) Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc"
6) Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)"
7) Select "hosts" and click "Open"
8) Go to the bottom of the text and add the line:-
65.38.186.188 (then press the Tab key) www.nissan4x4ownersclub.com
9) Now save and close this file.

Now reboot your PC and as if by magic.... all will be fine

glad that works, and forme, proves its a DNS replication issue. I have no idea about the site upgrade/update, so cant explain why, theres lots of reasons for DNS issues, but I suspect that some providers DNs records are still pointing at a different IP address for the site or something...?! The HOST entry solution is just telling youre PC that when you browse to www.whatever, go to http://***.***.**.*** ip address instead, its bypassing DNS. If you typed the IP in the IE address bar, it will still take you to the site. Seems googles servers are up to date, i suspected they would be, they are very reliable. I wonder if simply the service provider of the internet connection the site is hosted from, simply need to update their DNS records.....
