have had both and for me manual better bit more to gallon aswell the tdi was exelent for big vehicle giving 30mpg driven hard aswell with manual u can hold any gear for longer pull or whatever more in control i know you could do this by holding auto in the gears just not same.
if theres no physical disability in any of drivers which means u need auto get a manual.
theres also the three litre option one member trying to sell there t2 3.0l on here low milage etc suposed to have little more power than 2.7tdi and better fuel econemy !

I much prefer auto to manual, but its more of a personal preference. I do think though that you have more control with auto, and especially when towing.

Most new trucks now are coming in auto and buses have been auto for decades.

I've got a manual & love it. I like the straight from g/box gear change feel  In traffic I just put it in gear, let clutch up & it drives its self like an auto : But if I had to do a lot of town/heavy trafic I would have got an auto to take the preasure off my knees

Auto for me, it is so much easier when it comes to off roading, no wories about stalling, if I wanted some thing sporty then it would be a manual but for the 4x4 I would say auto.

I am looking to change to auto as my back does not like it very much when in heavy traffic and on and off the clutch. It's an absolute killer... Have a nice relaxing weekend away and by the time i have driven through the traffic i am back to square one and worse...

Auto is great off road as it put all the power down with quick gear change. I however like manual, I guess it a control thing!
