Welcome bud, I'm also a Trol owner, had a Y61 3.0 for 4 years before I got my Y60 4.2 in March. Loved the Y61, just had a hankering for a 4.2 beast

I would say a 3.0 of the vintage you're looking at is in the problem period for the 3.0 engine as early 3.0s were the poor design that created the bad rep the Y61 3.0s have (they were subsequently slightly redesigned).

That's not to say all early 3.0s are bad, and any still running are probably going to be okay, but just bear it in mind and be wary of any ones that have had a history of issues, although you can fit NADS to protect your engine (see Jay and Davey's threads)

Apart from that check for rust is the main one

Default Thanks

Thanks everyone, I can see I'm going to enjoy being here. All very well being on a Nissan 4x4 forum but I need a Nissan 4x4
Wheelie, thanks for your offer, may take you up on that but starting to feel a bit of a fraud right now.
Looking hard but not much about it seems.
Still getting to know the protocols here so apologies if this sort of chat should be elsewhere.
Still can't 'get to blue' so no access to other bits of site.

Don't worry Rusty, Banshee will be on it contacting the site owner for you.

There are several members on here who still remain on here even though their 4x4s are long gone but instead stay for the banter and community we have. Take your time and get the right truck, theguys here will offer you stacks of trol advice.

Barrbeast, is it the era I'm looking at that is risky or the 3.0l specifically? Would the 2.8 be better of similar age be any better.....Just shout anyone if this should be elsewhere... now fishing for advice in the welcome section!

That era of 3.0 is what's risky bud as those are some of the first 3.0s. If I was looking at that age I'd personally consider a 2.8 instead but they're not perfect either as they can have head gasket issues and they aren't as powerful as the 3.0s although like most engines they can be tweaked.

I should say Mr K, one of the Trol owners on here had his 2.8 HG go and he's swapped in a rb25 skyline engine.
