Default Hello From Down Under

Hello Folks

my name is Adam and i am from the the west midlands, after travelling for about 8 months i am in Perth WA and have just purchased a 1991 Nissan Terrano (also called a Pathfinder i am told) and i love it, plus there is alot of dust and sand to go and play in over here.

I joined this forum as i wanted some advice for 'My People' so to speak.. from back home as everything seems to be that little bit different over here.

I am in the process of making the 4x4 mine so i have stripped it all out and cleaning it top to toe. Painted a few bits as in WA people bash in to cars all the time and think nothing of it so wanted to bring it back to an acceptable standard.

The big plan is to see Australia in it and get it ready to do some travelling so here i am looking for as much info as i can, such as common problems, sump size, what oil to use, what plugs, how to change this that and the other etc etc.

thank you for letting me introduce myself and hopefully speak to you guys soon, i will get some pictures up once i am happy it looks good enough.

cheers

Adam

Struth cobber, go get me a tinny and drop a shrimp on the barbie.

Welcome to the fourm, dont rub it in too much about having lots of sand to play in though, you may find about 20 members off here turning up at your door for a play too.

Get the pics on now, we love to see work in progress stuff.

Hello Folks

Thanks for the warm welcome. You will probably think I am a night owl but the time zone is totally the opposite so I have to wait for people to replay, nice to look forward to in the mornings though.

I will try to answer my own questions with the search button as I know newbees asking loads of questions can get on peoples nerves so will try my best but the ones I struggle with I will just ask and see what comes back.

The main issues I have at the moment is that the power steering pump/box at the front weeps a drop of fluid every time I hit full lock. Not a major issue as it is only a drop but not keen on it happening as I like stuff to be perfect, which I think will be hard to do here as labour for mechanics is very high so people bodge things themselves it is quite funny, and the police can take you car off the road for the tiniest little fluid lead.

Strange really as they don’t have MOTs or road tax here you have Registration and with that (about $250 per annum for my truck) and that includes Road Tax (in effect) and Third party injury insurance.. so all you need to do is top up your insurance to cover 3rd party damage or go fully comp and that will only cost about another $250 per year so all in all you buy the vehicle and pay $500 and you are good to go.

But what I don’t like with the no MOT is that you get some really beaten up cars on the road, like the ones you see on pimp my ride back in the day.. thinking how on earth can that be on the road lol.

And the police are more occupied with fining people as apposed to arresting criminals if that makes sense they would rather have you for a small coolant leak and get $60 than respond to a car theft etc. that is just from what I have seen.

I have the 2.7 TDI the chap before me put a Mitsubishi intercooler on it and a stand alone fan said it will give it a bit more ummff! When off road in the heat. Although the petrol I cheap here (under 1 Pound per ltr, cant write ‘Pound’ as my work computer is ozzy and doesn’t have the pound sign lol)

I will get pictures up as soon as possible, to save me a search do you enter pictures via photobucket etc and copy the link or will this forum store pictures itself, either way is cool.

I believe that… I looked at the website and thought this is the place I need to be spending some time. I used to be an active member of another forum (not 4x4) and this is very similar so should be good.

Has anyone done the Land Rover test track in Solihull, I have been very lucky and have managed to do it 4x, if you ever get chance it is a real treat.

That would be awesome I need people to play with and to take me to A&E once I crash horribly lol if your over this way look me up.

The car came with.

Lift Kit
Snorkel
Off road wheels and tyres
CB UHF radio
Bull Bar (called Roo bar over here surprisingly lol)
Up rated Intercooler
Manual Diff locks (is driving in 2L and with the diffs locked weard, I am not a 4x4 veteran.. it feel weard to me when on full lock it seems to snatch as I turn that said I was going slow in the road outside my house lol.
Duel Batteries with kill Switch
Power outlets art rear and custom made table and gas bottle holder
Gas BBQ
Shovel on roof
Water Storage on roof
Roof Rack
Spot light in Roof rack and in Bull Bar.

It had just been fitted with clutch 15k miles ago (which whurrrs sometime when hold just before the bite.

And recipts for a new rear CV boot

The guy kitted it out for travelling so there was a frame in the back in place of the rear seats and a custom made foam mattress their place.

I will make sure I get some pictures up.

What I have done so far

Totally stripped out the interior to clean properly
Refitted the rear sets (for now) turns out the rear seat belt is broken, $35 from a scrappy (bit expencive in my view)
Fitted a new Head Unit as the old one can not play Ipod or mp3 cds
Repainted the tail gate as that was a second hand add on as the original was rusty
Painted the wheels,
Painted Shovel (lol)
Painted a few little bits for fun

Jobs to do
Full Service (how big is the sump)
Paint Bonnet and Wings (as the chap tried a DIY fix on sun blistered paint and looks terrible.
Fix crack in windscreen as I am worried it will get worse.
Tyre pen the text on the wheels
Paint shocks to match wheels
Full Mop, Polish, detail the body.

Sorry for the massive post but that is about it for my job list.

Hope to speak to you guys soon and I will defo get some pictures up soon

Thanks again for the warm welcome.

Sounds like your up for some cool adventures....

If your doing an oil change (engine) you'll need 6.5l with a filter change.

Good luck
