Off road training day
Our 4x4 response group had an off road training day today, and as expected the T2 took everything in it's stride...
Actually, many of the LR brigade were put to shame as she summited hills that they were only getting half way up. In fact, one hill was so bad, that in the end they changed it from up only, to down only, as my T2, and a Patrol were the only ones who could get up it. I had so many positive comments from everyone about how surprised they were that the T2 on AT's were so good, it was actually very easy to start feeling quite smug... There was only one hill we failed totally on, and that had a series of cross articulation holes near the top, and with my car in normal road worthy set up, with it's torsion bars still on, I just could not keep enough tyre on the ground to keep moving forward... The only vehicle to actually get up that hill was a LR110 with multiple diff locks, which came over the summit with only 1 wheel on the ground, and we seriously thought it was going to roll... So no loss of pride for us there... Suz had a great day as well, pinching the car every chance she got and took it everywhere anyone else did. All in all, a very good day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E97HbVcECEc |

I like the sound of her climbing the hill in this video. She sounds pretty meaty considering it the standard exhaust, I think most of the sound comes from the air intake. https://youtu.be/ZGs-YZpeoR4 |

Yeah looked like a great day. I’ve had people tell me that my Terrano isn’t a proper 4x4 it’s just a softroader. Little do they know though have to say nearest to off road mine goes is a supermarket car park, previous truck did green lanes really well.

Oppps, she is not amused!!!!
Basically this is a bit of everything, we take over a local campsite, so it is a social event, and then have the off road site booked for both days. Depending on your level of knowledge/confidence, you can decide on what training you want/need to do. We have a fully qualified BORDA trainer on the team, so he runs basic safe off road driving courses, then winching courses for those that want to learn. For those of us that are a bit more confident/have done the training, we can practice things like failed hill climbs in a safe environment, which was one of the things I was doing with Suz, the problem was getting the T2 to fail. We also do things like timed cane trials, to teach manoeuvring in a hostile environment, and navigation exercises, but also have a lot of fun. |
