Default Plumbing Question

A bit of a strange question this one, back in January I fitted out an en-suite or at least partially. I fitted a loo and a basin, loo waste already there so not causing a problem. Basin waste obviously has a standard bottle trap with a short verticle drop below floor and then a short length of 32mm with a slight drop leadingto an elbow dropping through ceiling of carport to a length aprox 6 foot with a small fall with a final elbow to a vertical fall of about 7 feet to a gulley. All seems to run away fine without problems. During this spell of hot weather I’ve noticed a smell in the en-suite and have tonight traced it to the basin plug hole. It’s like there is no water in the trap letting the smell up from the drain. There’s no leaks at all so I know there must be water in the trap. There is no other waste attaching to the waste pipe so can’t be a vacuum siphoning the water out of the trap.
Scratching my head on this one.

I would suspect you have an anti siphon trap and the anti valve rubber has failed as they do, Rick

Usually with ours its not the plughole, but the over flow on the back. Every now & then it needs a good clean, or squirt some bleach or plughole cleaner in the hole & leave over night then flush it out.

But I do concur with Mav96, soap scum can smell pretty awful in an overflow, Rick

Yes Rick it is an anti siphon but before I bend double and twist causing my wounds to open I’ll get the bleach out first.

Will not cure it, the rubber has gone and that is the cause of your smells I would replace the trap for a regular non anti siphon one as they are shit, Rick
