Going back on something Rick mentioned a couple of weeks ago....

I'm fitting one of these today.
Yes, its Chinese, but made by a proper company that have made them for the Russian market for years.
In fact the instructions and other literature is all in Russian.
I dont look forward to cold starting my Patrol if i've been away for a while, and i'm getting fed up with leaving her idling.
This little unit has a 2kw heater and impeller inside to pump your coolant around the top of the engine block and cabin heater matrix.

I'll report back wih some pics of the install.

A similar product was made many years ago for the Morris minor I think, worked well by all accounts, Rick

Kenlowe HotStart is the best in the business for this kind of thing.

They have come upon here a few times specifically for the Terrano and every time they have I've been SKINT

Yep, the Kenlowes are up there, and so is the price.

Is it for the coolant water ?

I bought a car in the 1960's with one already fitted (Vauxhall F type) if you use a timer they are vey economical, plus full heater working instantly! Mine would cool a little once I had driven a few miles - presumably due to the fixed fan being too efficient once the thermostat had opened. .

Thats the same as the one I have on my T2. I first bought a second hand Kenlow, but they are not very well designed and fail very easily, many bad reports on line when you start digging for specifics.

That one has been on for about 4 years, and while I only use it once in a blue moon, it works fine. Only think of 2 down sides, 1 it needs to be on for at least an hour to actually put any noticeable heat into the engine, and 2, the mains lead is quite short so you need to buy a waterproof joiner and extend the cord.

Looking forward to this... I had one of these on my LR Discovery 3 and I miss it! THe Merc Sprinter I have for work has one!

This is where I mounted mine...



I did find I needed to fit a Bleed Valve in the circuit, as I was struggling to get it and the heater to prime.







I put the wire in a bit of flexible trunking, and then extended the wire using a water proof Jell cable joining block....



which I also wrapped in self amalgamating tape to make sure it was really protected, and then ran the extended cable to the back of the car using the underfloor trunking on the drivers side. I fitted 2 Caravan Mains sockets in the boot, one for the Heater, and one for the battery charger, then wired them to a 3phase socket I put on the outside of the back of the car, making it easy to plug into the mains each night. The reason for the 3 phase socket was it allowed me to use 2 separate feeds for the mains sockets, and switch the heater on from inside the house when I needed too, but leaving the Battery charger turned on all the time.



The White plug is the one for the engine heater.

You've managed to fix the heater to the bulkhead to!!
Is that a rogue banjo fitting sat on the heater hose Clive, what's it for?

Having looked at the scarce info on fitting these, it looks like it's fitted on the return flow from the heater matrix?
Is this how you fitted yours Clive or did you use the tee piece?
Hands up, I didn't get this install done today my friends, I bought my good lady a RAV4 three-door instead, which basically used my afternoon up.
Pics of the install next weekend when I flush-out the cooling system and replace with genuine Nissan Green pre-mixed!

Yes it heats the coolant Mac.

The Banjo is what I added to the intercooler for the feed to the Boost Gauge. Basically, my first Intercooler had a Nissan Logo in the moulding, which gave a bit that was about 3/8" thick, so I was able to tap it and fit a spur, but when I discovered that one had a leak, and got a replacement, it did not have the extra moulding, so I sealed and fitted a T Nut, to give a nice thread, and at the same time, snapped the spur, so used a Banjo set up instead, which turned out better, as it means the tube comes out sideways, rather than straight up.

I did not use the T pieces, and plumbed it in circuit.. I must admit, I wanted it to defrost the windscreen as a priority, so set mine up in the input to the heater, which now you mention it, may be why it takes so long to warm the engine up.

I have been using that OAT Pink antifreeze for several years now, after it was recommended to me, and I have to say I have never had such a clean cooling system. I recently had to reseal the thermostat housing, and upon taking everything off, was very impressed, no build up, or sludge at all. Another thing I have recently found out is it also helps differentiate between a water leak and an Aircon leak..

Yes on the return and in reverse to normal engine flow.
