For what it’s worth I have an old 1999 2.7 Auto, it’s the only auto that I have owned though driven other autos occasionally but that’s all. So not sure if that qualifies me to say what the 2.7 auto is like. It’s only 3 speed which I’ve heard people say that makes them rubbish. Well I like it, I really like the Terrano 2.7 auto. It seems to go very well when I ask it to but at the same time it can be a nice relaxed drive too. It seems to cope with all the terrain I’ve driven it in, I use the 1st and 2nd manual selection especially the 2nd gear to control driving down hills. Have to say it’s a little heavier on fuel than a manual.
Blocky has the 3 litre auto, I’d love to drive that as I like the 3 litre manual that we also own though I’m not impressed by the quality of newer trucks.

My experience with this truck has made me think twice about any future car and maybe choose an auto.

I love my auto. It's a bit sluggish on changing when cold but soon warms up and then it's silky.
I assume it's the same gearbox across all year Terranos. 3 speed with a switchable overdrive?
If so, I'd expect you wouldn't know of it was 2.7 or 3ltr.

You are more than welcome to drive it Jim

I have no problems at all with the auto box on my 3ltr.....winter or summer.

Like Jim, I use 1st/2nd manually on steep inclines.....off road in 1st with overdrive off...it's virtually unstoppable......

Owned my 2.7 auto for 6 years now
no issues so far.
A bit heavier on juice than the manual like Jim says but wouldn't change it for the world.

would like our next truck to be an auto, whether a late terrano or even
a patrol.

Pretty sure the trol's auto is similar, 3 speed plus overdrive.

Reckon will be better for round town, for laning and for towing especially
when comes to shunting.

On a related note if can get a 54/05/55 plate will keep lower tax band
and gain 3 point belt on centre middle seat.
